DVC Resale: Offer and Counteroffer Timeline

Last edited on July 14, 2025

DVC Resale: Offer and Counteroffer Timeline is a key part of the negotiation process, and understanding it helps you move quickly and confidently. When you receive a counteroffer, you have 24 hours to respond. That response window is critical—any delay could cause the other party to think you're no longer interested, which may lead them to move forward with another buyer or seller.

Today’s DVC resale market is competitive. Many buyers submit offers to multiple brokers at once, hoping to secure the best contract available. They’re often eager to finalize a deal quickly and begin planning their first vacation with points. Because of this, a fast response to a counteroffer significantly improves your chances of moving the deal forward.

We strongly recommend that both buyers and sellers prepare a response strategy ahead of time. Decide what terms you’re comfortable with so you can quickly accept, counter, or decline when a counteroffer comes in. Having a plan in place prevents unnecessary delays and keeps negotiations smooth.

If the 24-hour window expires, the counteroffer will automatically expire as well. When that happens, you’ll receive an email notification, and your dashboard and Journal page will be updated to reflect the change. Buyers will still have the option to submit a new offer at a different price if they’d like to keep negotiations going.

Our admin team manager monitors all offer activity closely and steps in to follow up if any party delays. This ensures that both sides stay engaged and the process stays on track.
