Buying DVC from Disney or Resale

When purchasing Disney Vacation Club points, the first big decision is whether to buy direct from Disney or through a resale broker like DVC Sales. While both options give you access to a flexible points-based timeshare, the cost, flexibility, and long-term benefits can vary significantly.

Buying direct from Disney means paying full retail price—often $200 to $250 per point depending on the resort. Direct buyers receive eligibility for certain Member Extras, such as occasional discounts or exclusive events, but the added perks may not justify the steep cost for all families.

By contrast, DVC resale offers significant savings. Most contracts on the resale market are priced 30% to 50% below Disney’s direct pricing. You still receive real, deeded ownership at your chosen resort and can book vacations using the same DVC reservation system. For most members, day-to-day usage is identical.

The main difference comes down to a few restrictions Disney places on resale contracts. For example, if you buy a resale contract at a legacy resort like Saratoga Springs or Old Key West, your points cannot be used at new resorts such as Riviera or Disneyland Hotel. However, the vast majority of owners find that their home resort and the classic DVC lineup provide more than enough vacation options.

Resale also offers more flexibility. You can choose from a wide variety of contract sizes, Use Years, and point availability. At DVC Sales, our platform shows everything you need—price per point, banked points, closing costs, and annual dues—so you can make an informed decision from the start.

Whether you’re a first-time buyer or adding points to an existing contract, our licensed agents are available to walk you through the process. The right path depends on your budget, priorities, and how much value you place on extras versus overall savings.
