DVC Resale vs. Retail
If you’re researching Disney Vacation Club, you’ve likely come across two buying options: resale and retail. Retail refers to buying directly from Disney, while resale means purchasing from an existing owner through a licensed broker like DVC Sales. Both paths lead to DVC ownership, but the differences in price, flexibility, and benefits are worth reviewing.
Price is the biggest difference. Retail prices from Disney currently range from $200 to $250 per point, depending on the resort. Meanwhile, resale prices are often 30%–50% less for the same home resorts. That savings adds up quickly—especially for families looking to purchase 150 points or more.
Functionally, resale contracts work almost identically. You can book your home resort 11 months in advance, use the Member Portal, bank or borrow points, and enjoy the same reservation system as retail buyers. If you buy resale at Saratoga Springs, for example, you’ll have the same booking access as someone who purchased that contract directly from Disney.
Retail purchases include Membership Extras. These are optional perks such as dining discounts, access to exclusive events, and the ability to use points on Disney Cruises or Adventures by Disney. Resale buyers do not receive those perks unless they own a qualifying direct contract.
There are also resort limitations. Disney has placed restrictions on resale points bought after 2019. These points cannot be used at newer resorts like Riviera or Disneyland Hotel Villas. However, most DVC members find more than enough availability across the 14 classic resorts.
For most buyers, DVC resale offers the better value. The core ownership benefits remain intact, the cost is lower, and the purchasing experience is often smoother and more transparent through a broker.
At DVC Sales, we provide honest comparisons and detailed contract listings so buyers can evaluate resale options with confidence. If retail still makes sense for your needs, we’ll explain why—but more often than not, resale delivers the right balance of savings and satisfaction.
