Buying DVC Resale vs Direct

When comparing buying Disney Vacation Club resale vs direct, the main question is whether the additional benefits of buying from Disney are worth the extra cost. For many buyers, resale offers nearly the same vacation experience at a much better price.

With a direct purchase, you’ll pay Disney’s full retail rate—typically $200 to $250 per point depending on the resort. Direct buyers are eligible for Membership Extras like discounts on merchandise and events, access to a few newer resorts, and occasional special offers. However, those perks are optional and don’t affect your ability to book vacations.

Resale, on the other hand, allows you to buy a contract at 30% to 50% less than Disney’s pricing. You'll still receive a deeded real estate interest in the resort, full access to that resort’s booking window, and the ability to book all legacy DVC resorts. For most families, this is the core value of DVC—and resale delivers it for much less.

There are a few restrictions on resale contracts. Buyers cannot use resale points to book stays at Riviera, Disneyland Hotel Villas, or any future resorts unless they purchase those points directly. Also, Membership Extras such as Moonlight Magic events and member-only discounts are reserved for direct buyers who meet Disney’s minimum requirements.

But if your goal is to secure long-term vacation accommodations at Disney at the best price, resale is often the better path. You’ll get more points for your money, avoid pressure from timeshare presentations, and have access to a wider range of contract sizes and Use Years.

At DVC Sales, we make it easy to compare contract details and work with experienced, licensed agents who are former Disney Vacation Club cast members. Whether you’re leaning toward resale or still weighing both options, we’re here to help you make the right decision for your family.
