Where Can I Use DVC Resale Points
If you're considering buying resale, one of the most common questions is: Where can I use DVC resale points? The answer depends on which resort you buy and when it was built. Resale buyers can still book most Disney Vacation Club resorts and enjoy the core benefits of ownership—but some limitations apply, especially with the newest properties.
When you buy resale at any of the “legacy” DVC resorts—such as Saratoga Springs, BoardWalk, Old Key West, Animal Kingdom, or Beach Club—you can use your points to book every DVC resort built before 2019. That includes top destinations like Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Bay Lake Tower, and Aulani. You get the same 11-month home resort priority and 7-month booking window at other eligible resorts, just like direct buyers.
However, if you purchase a resale contract at Disney’s Riviera Resort or The Villas at Disneyland Hotel, your usage is restricted. Resale points from these resorts can only be used at that specific home resort. This means Riviera resale buyers can only book Riviera, and Disneyland Hotel resale buyers can only book Disneyland Hotel. You won’t be able to use those points to book other DVC resorts in the system.
Another limitation is that resale points cannot be used for non-DVC options such as Disney Cruise Line, Adventures by Disney, or the Concierge Collection. These are reserved for direct buyers with qualifying Membership Extras. However, most resale buyers aren’t interested in using points for those options anyway, since they typically offer lower value per point.
The good news is resale DVC points still offer full access to the DVC reservation system, including online booking tools, Member Services, and account management. You'll also receive a deeded interest in your home resort and the ability to bank, borrow, and transfer points just like any other member.
At DVC Sales, we clearly list which contracts include usage restrictions. Our team helps you compare resorts and choose one based on where you want to vacation most often. If flexibility is a priority, we’ll guide you toward contracts that allow use across multiple resorts. If you already know you love Riviera or Disneyland Hotel and only plan to stay there, buying resale can still be a great value.
So where can you use DVC resale points? In most cases, at nearly every resort in the DVC system—except for the newest ones if you buy a restricted contract. And while you won’t have access to Member Extras, you’ll still enjoy deluxe accommodations, early booking privileges, and major savings compared to buying direct.
